Social Media Platform X (formerly called Twitter), which belongs to the richest person in the world, Elon Musk, has officially refused to register in Nepal, saying the country has high levels of corruption and a lack of transparency.

X has added further to refuse to register, saying it won’t operate in a “country where there’s corruption and no guarantee of freedom of expression.

This comes amid mounting pressure from Nepal’s government on tech platforms to register locally or face restrictions.

Reacting sharply to the wording of X’s letter, the authority said that they won’t register in our corrupt country. We told them to register, operate, and earn profits here, but they refused to do so.

Meanwhile, during clashes between protesters and security forces, the police have killed at least 19 youth during peaceful protests, and dozens were injured after demonstrations against political corruption and a government social media ban.

Thousands heeded a call by demonstrators describing themselves as Generation Z to gather near the parliament building in Kathmandu over the decision to ban platforms including Facebook, X and YouTube, as well as over wider dissatisfaction with the government.

Due to all these factors, Nepal’s political system has been completely dismantled and is trying to form a new government led by a non-partisan personality.
