As the world marked the 56th anniversary of the Apollo -11 Moon landing , two clips of Buzz Aldrin began circulating again on social media, prompting many to claim that the second man on the lunar surface had ‘admitted’ to never having been there at all and Apollo 11 moon landing was faked.

In one interview clip, Aldrin appears to stun the host by denying that an interviewer had seen the moon landing live as a child. ‘No, you didn’t,’ he said. ‘There wasn’t any television, there wasn’t anyone taking a picture and video and you watched an animation.’

In an interview at the National Book Festival in Washington DC an eight-year-old girl asked Aldrin why no one had returned to the moon in so long. ‘Because we didn’t go there,’ he replied, ‘and that’s the way it happened.’

The clips have been viewed millions of times. Racking up thousands of shares on conspiracy theory forums and on X. ‘Buzz admits moon landing was FAKED!’

Aldrin, now 95, has never denied the authenticity of the 1969 Apollo 11 mission. He has spent decades fiercely defending its legacy – and mocking those who suggest it was a hoax.

Late In 2002, he punched a moon-landing denier in the face outside a hotel in Beverly Hills after being called it ‘a coward, liar and thief’ and being pressed to swear on a Bible that he had walked on the moon. He was 72 years old at that time.

Aldrin has also spoken publicly and often about the challenges about Apolo mission, the scientific lie and the emotional toll it took on the astronauts and others involved in it.

He also claimed that Networks like CBS and NBC used their pre-made animations and simple models to synchronize to NASA’s live audio, video and data to help audiences visualize what was really happening on Appolo 11 moon landing.

Aldrin was simply being literal and perhaps overly pedantic during interview: ‘You watched the animation.’ He was not undermining the mission’s reality; he was explaining what footage was obtained at the time and how.

The full response backs that up as Aldrin goes on to describe vividly the real lunar landing in technical detail.
